Possibly One of the Best Weeks of My Life

Possibly One of the Best Weeks of My Life

It has been over a week since the IAAF World Championships came to a close and I finished my last shift as a 'Runner'. It truly was an amazing championship that I was lucky enough to be a part of as a volunteer and a spectator. Every one of my five shifts I had was varied and different with my first shift being on Sunday 6th August 2017 at Tower Bridge for the Marathon. It had been a late finish the...

A Volunteers Journey to Becoming 'A Runner' at the IAAF World Athletics Championships

A Volunteers Journey to Becoming 'A Runner' at the IAAF World Athletics Championships

From a young age I started running with my dad and joined the local running club; I have always loved sport especially Athletics. Running has shaped my life and experiences dramatically over the years; giving me some incredible highs and some heart breaking lows. It has honestly been quite the love affair over the 20+ years. Running has become part of my routine and if I don't run it feels like some...

This Girl Can 'ENCOURAGE' Others to Run London Marathon too!

Where to start … What a day, What a weekend, What an experience! Steve and I collected our numbers from the Expo Friday afternoon, enjoying the atmosphere and of course buying some of the London marathon kit. Following on with a slap up meal at a lovely Italian restaurant not far from the Excel.

Saturday was a strange one, we didn't have much to do apart from wait for the inevitable next day....

It is nearly time.......4 days to go!

It is nearly time.......4 days to go!

As a sit here pondering at the thought of running 26.2 miles I told myself on Sunday whilst I was completing my last long-ish run around Stewartby Lake and Marston Vale that now was the time to be confident, be sensible and relax. However, with just 4 days to go I am feeling anything but the above. We have planned to pick up our numbers from the Marathon Expo on Friday evening being slightly disappointed...

Time to Taper!

Time to Taper!

After months and months of training and covering 465 miles to date the final 20 mile long run was completed on Sunday at Oakley. I had the pleasure of being kept company by the Ampthill and Flitwick Flyers Running Club Chairman, Paul Owen who also kept me true to my plan so I could finish the last 4 miles strong and in a good place. I was so looking forward to finishing the last 20 mile run but now...

This Girl Can Run 20 Miles......Just!

This Girl Can Run 20 Miles......Just!

Last weekend was the first 20 mile training run on the dreaded London Marathon schedule. Steve and I made the long journey to Bramley leaving the house on Sunday at 8 am to make sure we got there in plenty of time for the race to start at 10.30 am. We had both completed this race last year so knew what to expect...hills, 2 laps and the pain that overcomes you at approximately mile 17 knowing there...

This Girl Can Run a Marathon Again or So She Thinks!

This Girl Can Run a Marathon Again or So She Thinks!

I spent most of last year complaining about training for a marathon and how tired I was so when the opportunity arose this year to apply for a Golden Bond charity place for London Marathon I thought why not...I always liked a challenge. I was so pleased to be accepted especially as I am running for a local charity called 'Encourage.' When I told my work colleagues and friends the good news they were...

Top 5 Tips for a Female Sports Coach

As a female coaching is probably not a role you would have ever considered or thought you would be good at. Well you are wrong as anyone can coach not just males. You carry out coaching on a daily basis with the mentoring and support you provide work colleagues, friends and family as a female.
